RST is supporting a local everyday hero named Damien ‘Damo’. Damo is 9 years old and has Asperger’s, and he’s pretty special.

He is taking on a 10km Marathon – the Bridge to Brisbane! Damo had to get special permission to run in this race as he’s under the age limit which we think is pretty fantastic!

He is trying to raise $5000 for ‘Asperger Services Australia’ – a cause important to him. We would like to encourage you to support this as well and help him reach this target.

I don’t know about you, but we think running a 10km Marathon is a pretty great accomplishment, especially for a 9 year old boy.

Queensland dust control company Reynolds Soil Technologies (RST), which mainly supplies products to mine sites, is looking to extend its market to Australian Ports.

After completing trials at ports in eastern and western Australia, RST is now looking to sign permanent contracts with various port authorities. These are under pressure to minimise dust from their stockpiles and facilities.

RST technical and development director David Handel said the management of dust control during the transport of minerals from mines to ships requires solutions his company has developed after 20 years’ experience on mine sites.

“Shipping ports already work on strict environmental guidelines. We are helping thm to meet these guidelines and complement the procedures they already have in place. we also offer cost-effective, water-saving solutions and our proven technologies work,” he said.

RST is looking to use its new Superskin dust control product at ports. Superskin is a veneer eco dust suppressant which RST says uses up to 90 per cent less product than any competitor.

The company is using purpose-designed spray systems to apply foamers, water extenders and crusting agents to transported minerals. RST also supplies a non-stick agent called ‘Release It’ which is sprayed on to the trays of rail wagons and rucks trays to help eliminate any carry-back to mine sites.

“It’s total materials handling and dust prevention,” says Mr Handel. “This includes managing stockpiles, loading, transporting and unloading throughout the whole material supply chain, ensuring dust is kept to a minimum or totally eliminated.

“Shipping ports are a new growth area for us. We ensure the transportation and movement  of products is completed in the safest and cleanest way possible, in what is generally a more pristine environment near ocean and towns.

“We’ve had a lot of interest and already work with some of the major ports, rails and mines throughout Australia. We also work internationally with contracts secured in South America, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Asia and other major industry areas,” said Mr Handel.

RST has over 20 years’ experience in dust management, soil stabilisation and erosion, water and agricultural solutions. The company, with premises in Burleigh Heads, Queensland and Welshpool, Western Australia, designs, constructs and maintains customers’ systems.

A Queensland soil technology company has revolutionised the industry with a breakthrough eco dust suppressant that will use up to 90 per cent less product than any in the marketplace.

With export deals already sealing in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia and strong demand in Australia, Reynolds Soil Technologies (RST) expects revenues to increase by around 50 per cent in 2010 as its breakthrough Superskin product bust dust on a grand scale.

RST technical and development director David Handel, said the environmentally-friendly, biodegradable concept will set a new benchmark or veneer dust suppressants across the industry by conserving more water and decreasing transport costs, cutting emissions.

“Superskin is the way of the future for a diverse range of applications including mine sites, transportation routes, civil construction sites and agricultural projects,” said Mr Handel.

“Our research and development team were focused on developing and delivering a super concentrate that use around 90 per cent less product than traditional crusting agents. Through our extensive research we are now launching Superskin which will offer a more environmentally friendly and more effective option for dust management while even being more affordable for our clients.”

Traditional veneer treatments are designed to crust large areas for prolonged periods requiring large volumes of product, excessive transport, storage and logistics on-site.

Mr Handel said the innovative solution will benefit rail car and truck transportation which will eliminate material loss and potentially save coal mining companies millions of dollars.

Testing has been done by Newcastle University’s bulk handling test laboratory in collaboration with Queensland-based Proof Engineers to fine tune the product.

RST is currently working with a range of high profile mining clients globally.

“In civil construction, Superskin applications include sealing stockpiles and all exposed areas, a total dust ‘lockdown’ during closures, stabilising trenches and embankment erosion control,” said Mr Handel.

“In the agriculture industry, Superskin applications include dust control to all exposed areas, erosion control and will stop soil washing into water catchment areas. Superskin can also be used to stabilise ultra fine powdery material such as ash.”

Superskin will also be utilised to effectively control dust and wall collapse when drilling for blast patterns alongside RST’s drilling foams and additive products.

RST has more than 20 years experience in total dust management and soil erosion management.

The Burleigh Heads-based company designs, constructs and maintains all systems. With qualified site technicians managing each program, RST will implement continual improvement programs to ensure that all products and systems are supplying clients with optimum results.
